This is an extremely valuable and insightful book that every pet owner should not only read, but own
and use as a reference throughout their pet's lifetime-maybe even purchase two copies so in the
event you want to lend the book to a friend (which you will), you will always have a copy on-hand!
While the book is authored by a veterinarian, the content is written for the average pet owner
meaning it's engaging and interesting, peppered with humor and stories from his personal
experience with his own pets and veterinary practice. This book was an awakening for me in terms
of how I view pet vaccinations and nutrition. It was the first time I'd seen a professional in the
industry question the status quo, and offer evidence and anecdotes to support his claims that our
modern pets largely suffer from over-vaccination and poor quality nutrition, making their bodies
less able to effectively fight off disease. He goes on to assert that over-vaccination and low quality
nutrition are the primary causes of the increased incidence of disease in dogs and cats, and goes on
to talk about what the average pet owner can do to protect their dog or cat.
Goldstein is a holistic veterinarian, meaning he leans heavily on "alternative" practices to achieve
and maintain a state of overall wellness rather than just treating disease or symptoms. Alternative
therapies include Bach Flower Remedies, acupuncture, chiropractic, herbs and plant extracts, ozone
therapy, cryosurgery, supplements, and vitamins. Goldstein's book goes into detail about these
different therapies, but he also discusses common issues many of our pets face such as allergies
and disease, making it a helpful resource even if you don't choose to pursue alternative therapies.
Included is an A to Z guide that outlines the most common diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and
skin problems, the causes, and the best course of action. The book ends with two very
compassionate and uplifting chapters about pet death and the spiritual realm.
The Nature of Animal Healing will empower pet owners with valuable insights and information about
their pet's health from a vet's point of view, so owners can be more informed advocates for their
dogs or cats. If you have just one book on your shelf about dog and cat health, it should be this one!
